Health Journey Update – October 2024

Life has been a rollercoaster since my last post in December 2020. But weight loss has happened! I’m back with some exciting updates and new challenges I’ve overcome. While my progress has been slower than expected, I’m proud of the consistency I’ve maintained in my journey. Here’s how the last few years have shaped my fitness and health.

Recap

Since my 2020 post, I’ve lost 29.8 lbs. It might not seem like a huge number, but it’s been a steady, sustainable loss, and most importantly—I haven’t gained any weight back. I’ve followed a pattern of losing weight, maintaining it for six months, and then shedding more. And while life threw me some curveballs (more on that below), I’m still here, pushing forward.

Evolving My Fitness and Diet Plans

One of the biggest changes I’ve made is focusing on my protein intake. I now aim for at least 100g of protein daily, even when Crohn’s is flaring up. My nutrition coach encourages me to hit 170g, but it’s a challenge I’m still working toward. I tell myself to just do five minutes of weights, and if I want to stop, I can. (Though I’ve only quit once since 2020!)

In September 2023, I suffered a bad knee injury, which put a serious stall on my weight loss for a year. Walking became painful, and I avoided lower body workouts out of fear. But I underwent surgery in August 2024, and I’ve seen such a dramatic improvement in just two months. I’ve also committed to working out with my husband twice a week this year. While it hasn’t been perfect, we’ve stuck with it most of the time—and I’m enjoying it!

Recent Struggles

My biggest struggle over the past year was definitely my knee injury. It held me back from walking and lower-body workouts for months, which impacted my momentum. But surgery was a game-changer, and I’m finally back to making progress. In fact, this week was my first week back with no limitations after being cleared by the surgeon last week. And wow, am I sore… but I love it!

New Gear & Products

Over the past few years, I’ve made some upgrades to help me stay on track:

  • My husband bought me AirPods Pro in 2021, and they’ve been a game-changer. Though, as I’ve lost more weight, they don’t fit as snugly. I’m thinking of rewarding myself with over-the-head headphones soon! Maybe Airpods Max or if you have a suggestion for better ones let me know.
  • I got Hokas for walking, and I love the cushion they provide for my feet.
  • We also set up a Google speaker in the garage to blast music during workouts—highly recommend!
  • For Mother’s Day, I received an Ultrahuman ring, which has helped me gain insight into my sleep patterns. No subscriptions, just valuable sleep data.

Weight Loss Goals for the Rest of 2024

For the remainder of 2024, my primary goals are:

  • Work out 3x a week
  • Be a more active mom and engage more with my kids
  • Focus on weight loss in 2025 after I’ve built a solid routine

Sleep has become another major focus for me. Since getting my Ultrahuman ring, I’ve tried to prioritize better sleep habits and feel more energized.

Ongoing Updates

I’ll be posting shorter blog posts more often—kind of like a diary—sharing what’s on my mind and what I’m doing. This will be a way to keep you updated on my progress, what’s working for me, and any obstacles I’m facing.

Get Fit Gear

  • AirPods Pro – Still love them, but they’re starting to fit looser.
